A Dutch cargo ship, the Amadeus Gold, ran aground in the shallow waters of the Odense Fjord at the north end of the island of Funen. The incident occurred early Monday morning while the ship was en route from Rotterdam to Odense. The narrow route and shallow waters near the main terminal posed challenges for the vessel, leading to its grounding.
Efforts to refloat the Amadeus Gold are currently underway, with three vessels dispatched to assist. The tugs Svitzer Idun and Tybring, along with the pollution control ship Marie Miljo, are working to free the stranded freighter. Despite these efforts, as of Tuesday evening, the Amadeus Gold remains stuck in the fjord, maintaining its position near the port.
The Amadeus Gold, a coastal freighter built in 2010 with a deadweight tonnage of 2,500, is owned and managed by a Dutch firm. The ship’s recent inspection record revealed one detention and a total of 15 deficiencies, including issues related to the ISM Code, oil record book, wreck-removal liability certificate, and pollution coverage certificate.
The grounding of the Amadeus Gold has prompted a coordinated response to address the situation and prevent any potential environmental impact or further complications. The focus is on safely refloating the vessel and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations to prevent similar incidents in the future.
