Ocean Power Technologies Inc. (OPT), a publicly traded company specializing in intelligent maritime systems and ocean energy solutions, recently announced a partnership with Mythos AI. This collaboration aims to integrate advanced AI-driven autonomy software into OPT’s fleet of WAM-V Autonomous Surface Vehicles (ASVs) and PowerBuoy platforms. The initiative is expected to enhance OPT’s operational capabilities and broaden its range of integrated solutions for clients in defense, security, and commercial sectors, while also solidifying its position in the rapidly evolving market of autonomous systems.
OPT envisions that merging its ocean platforms with Mythos AI’s sophisticated autonomy architecture will lead to improved endurance, adaptability, and mission versatility at sea. The autonomous ecosystem developed by OPT encompasses hardware, power systems, and AI software, providing a comprehensive solution for maritime operations. Philipp Stratmann, OPT’s president and CEO, emphasized that this partnership will enhance their ability to deliver high-performance autonomous systems that are flexible and scalable for real-world missions.
As part of the agreement, the autonomy stack will be integrated into OPT’s existing WAM-V fleet, with initial demonstrations slated for the first quarter of 2026. These systems will utilize real-time edge processing, multi-sensor fusion, and adaptive learning to improve situational awareness and obstacle avoidance, along with multi-vehicle coordination.
Geoff Douglass, CEO of Mythos AI, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, highlighting OPT’s robust platforms as an ideal foundation for showcasing the potential of software-driven autonomy in maritime operations. This collaboration aligns with OPT’s broader strategy to provide modular, persistent, and intelligent systems that enhance efficiency, safety, and sustainability in complex maritime environments.
