EUCAP Somalia’s Field Office in Puntland has made a significant contribution to local law enforcement by donating maritime communication equipment and fingerprint scanners to the Puntland State Police. This initiative is designed to bolster the capabilities of the Bossaso Port Maritime Police Unit and the Financial Guard Unit.
The new equipment is expected to enhance maritime surveillance and facilitate real-time communication and coordination at sea. This upgrade is crucial for supporting effective law enforcement operations, particularly in an area where maritime crime and smuggling are prevalent.
Additionally, the introduction of fingerprint scanners will improve identification and investigation processes, further empowering law enforcement to tackle financial crimes and cross-border illicit activities. This technological advancement is a vital step in strengthening the overall security framework in the region.
EUCAP Somalia remains committed to supporting local maritime capacity building, focusing on enhancing maritime security, border control, and the operational efficiency of law enforcement units in Puntland. This ongoing partnership aims to foster a safer and more secure maritime environment for the local community.
