The European Commission has announced a new call for proposals, offering co-funding of up to €1.7 million to enhance sea basin cooperation on Maritime Spatial Planning (MSP) within the European Union. This initiative is supported by the European Maritime, Fisheries and Aquaculture Fund (EMFAF). MSP is crucial for effectively managing marine resources and activities while ensuring marine protection, necessitating reliable data and collaboration among EU Member States and neighboring countries.
The primary goal of this funding opportunity is to develop innovative solutions to address challenges faced by EU Member States in the Atlantic and Black Sea regions as they implement, monitor, and update their Maritime Spatial Plans. Given that many of these challenges are shared among coastal Member States, there is a collective interest in identifying effective responses that can be applied within or across different sea basins.
Eligible projects should involve participants from various Member States within the same sea basin or across different basins, with proposals focusing on specific areas or sub-regions of the Atlantic and Black Sea. The Commission anticipates funding one or two projects.
Interested applicants can submit their proposals electronically by April 15, 2026. The proposal evaluation will take place from April to May 2026, with results expected by June 2026 and grant agreements to be signed between September and December 2026. More details on the application process can be found on the Funding & Tenders Portal.
