A British maritime authority reported an “explosion” near a vessel in the Gulf of Aden, off the coast of Yemen, on Tuesday. This incident comes amid ongoing attacks on commercial shipping by Houthi rebels, which have escalated since the onset of the Gaza conflict.

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) indicated that the incident occurred approximately 120 nautical miles (around 222 kilometers) east of Aden. The ship’s captain reported hearing an explosion and observed water splashing near the vessel.

As of now, no group has claimed responsibility for the explosion, which the maritime authority has classified as an “attack.” Fortunately, the ship did not sustain any damage, and the crew remained unharmed as they continued their journey to the next port.
