The world’s first multi-purpose vessel, Prima Verde, has been delivered, boasting the ability to run on marine gas oil (MGO) and wind-assisted propulsion simultaneously. Operated by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) company MOL Drybulk and owned by Daishin Shipping, the vessel was delivered at Onomichi Dockyard. It is equipped with environmentally friendly features, including green steel materials for the hull, an engine that runs exclusively on MGO, and a wind-assisted propulsion system. JGreeX, a green steel material supplied by JFE Steel Corporation, significantly reduces CO2 emissions.

Measuring 129.6 meters in length and 23.6 meters in breadth, the vessel is powered by an engine from Japan Engine Corporation that runs exclusively on MGO. This engine boasts high combustion efficiency and low carbon dioxide emissions during operation. Additionally, the vessel is equipped with two VentoFoil wind power-assisted vessel propulsion devices from ECONOWIND, with MOL Techno-Trade serving as a sales agent. The installation of these devices is expected to reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by utilizing wind power for propulsion.

Prima Verde is a groundbreaking vessel that combines the use of MGO and wind-assisted propulsion, setting a new standard for environmentally friendly shipping. With its innovative features and technology, the vessel represents a significant step forward in reducing emissions and promoting sustainability in the maritime industry.
