Residents in the vicinity of Pattaya City, Thailand were alarmed when they spotted a gas tanker stranded on the shore early in the morning. Initial fears of a gas leak were quickly dispelled by authorities who confirmed that the vessel’s tanks were empty, and there was no immediate danger to the public. The incident occurred when the LPG carrier NP Bangpakong, with a capacity of 3,996 dwt, ran aground while trying to avoid a fishing boat. The vessel, which has been operating in Thailand since 2013, measures 100 meters (328 feet) in length.

The shipping company SC Group Holding, which owns the stranded vessel, acknowledged the incident and stated that it was caused by an employee’s negligence. Engineers have been dispatched to inspect the vessel, and a tugboat has been sent to assist in refloating it. The company has pledged to implement stricter preventive measures to avoid similar incidents in the future. Despite initial concerns about possible damage to the ballast tanks, officials have reported that the vessel’s double-hull construction prevented any significant harm.

The grounding of the gas tanker off the Eastern Gulf Coast in Thailand has raised concerns among local residents and authorities. The quick response by the authorities in containing the situation and the shipping company’s commitment to addressing the root cause of the incident have been noted. Efforts are underway to assess the extent of the damage and ensure the safe refloating of the vessel.
