The Global Maritime Forum has released its inaugural Impact Report, showcasing its efforts to foster a greener, fairer, and more resilient maritime industry in 2024. Established in 2017, the Forum has united various stakeholders to address systemic challenges in global seaborne trade, reflecting on significant achievements in climate action and human sustainability over the past year.
Key highlights include the Forum’s leadership in promoting green shipping corridors, such as the Australia-East Asia Iron Ore Green Corridor and the Singapore-Rotterdam initiative. Additionally, it has engaged industry leaders to influence ambitious mid-term decarbonisation strategies at the International Maritime Organization.
The report also emphasizes the Forum’s commitment to seafarer well-being through its human sustainability programme and the All Aboard Alliance, which includes 33 members. In 2024, 12 companies participated in the Diversity@Sea pilot project aimed at enhancing conditions for life at sea.
Furthermore, the report underscores the increasing focus on maritime transparency through initiatives like the Poseidon Principles and the Sea Cargo Charter. The Annual Summit in Tokyo, attended by around 200 decision-makers from 160 companies and 29 countries, served as a platform for collaboration. Looking ahead, the Forum plans to host its 2025 Summit in Antwerp, continuing its mission for a sustainable maritime future.
