
A new report titled "Getting to Zero Coalition Action Framework: Documenting Actions Towards Decarbonising Shipping" has been released, offering a detailed overview of industry efforts to decarbonize shipping. Published by the Global Maritime Forum’s Getting to Zero Coalition, which comprises over 200 organizations from maritime, energy, infrastructure, and finance sectors, the report evaluates progress on 26 essential actions aimed at achieving the International Maritime Organization’s goal of full decarbonization by 2050.
Seventy-six major companies reported their advancements, categorized into five key areas. The highest average score, 58%, was for Creating Enabling Conditions, which includes establishing decarbonization targets and policy engagement. Incentives and Market-Making followed with a 42% score, focusing on transparency in ship financing and port incentives for zero-emission shipping.
The report also highlights First Movers and Niche Market Development (24%), Transition Investments (23%), and Deployment of Zero-Emission Shipping (26%). Each action features best practices, showcasing successful case studies across the value chain. This report serves as a vital benchmarking tool, helping stakeholders identify barriers and accelerate the transition to a zero-emission future in global shipping.
