The Indian Coast Guard successfully rescued nine crew members of the Indian vessel Taj Dhare Haram, which sank in the northern Arabian Sea. The crew members had abandoned their vessel and were found taking refuge in a small life raft. The rescue mission was carried out under challenging sea conditions, with close collaboration between the maritime rescue coordination centers of Mumbai, India, and Karachi, Pakistan. The vessel had departed from Mundra in Gujarat and was headed to Socotra, Yemen, when it sank due to flooding in rough seas. The distress call was picked up by a coast guard Dornier aircraft on surveillance duty in the area, prompting immediate action from the coast guard and maritime agencies.
The crew members were located and rescued around 311 km west of Porbandar, in Pakistan’s search and rescue region. This successful mission comes after recent similar incidents in the northern Arabian Sea, where the Indian Coast Guard rescued seafarers marooned due to vessel sinking and flooding. The collaboration between the Indian and Pakistani maritime agencies highlights the importance of international cooperation in maritime search and rescue operations. The Indian Coast Guard’s prompt response and effective coordination with regional counterparts have been instrumental in ensuring the safety of crew members in distress at sea.
In another incident, an Indian mechanised sailing vessel, Al Piranpir, encountered rough seas while en route from Porbandar to Bandar Abbas in Iran. The vessel’s crew faced challenging conditions, emphasizing the unpredictable nature of maritime travel. The Indian Coast Guard has been actively involved in various rescue operations in the northern Arabian Sea, showcasing their commitment to maritime safety and security. International collaboration and swift response play a crucial role in ensuring the safety of seafarers navigating the challenging waters of the Arabian Sea.
