Udupi Cochin Shipyard Limited (UCSL), a subsidiary of Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL), has secured an order from Indian tug operator Ocean Sparkle Limited for the construction of three ASD (Azimuth Stern Drive) Tugs with a bollard pull power of 70 tonnes. This order comes after Ocean Sparkle earlier ordered two 62 T bollard pull ASD tugs from the shipyard, which were delivered ahead of schedule and are currently in use at Paradip Port and New Mangalore Port.
The new 70 Tonne bollard pull tugs will have specific dimensions – 33 metres in length, 12.2 metres in beam, and 4.2 metres in draft. They will be powered by two 1838 kW main engines, 2.7 metre diameter thrusters, 150 kW diesel generators, and feature additional equipment such as a forward towing winch, aft winch, deck crane, and an external fire fighting system. Designed by Robert Allan Limited, these tugs will be classed by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) and operated under the Indian flag.
The successful completion and delivery of the previous tugs have led to Ocean Sparkle Limited’s continued partnership with UCSL for the construction of these powerful ASD tugs. The order highlights the shipyard’s commitment to delivering high-quality vessels to meet the needs of the Indian tug operator under Adani Harbour Services Limited.
