On Sunday evening, Israel conducted air raids on several Houthi-controlled ports in Yemen’s Hodeidah province. This action followed an urgent evacuation alert issued by the Israeli military on the social media platform X. Witnesses reported explosions at various locations on Yemen’s western coast, including the targeted ports of Hodeidah, Salif, and Ras Isa, in addition to the Ras Katib power plant and the Galaxy Leader, a ship seized by Houthi forces in November 2023.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that these strikes aimed at Houthi strongholds, as the ports are alleged to facilitate the transfer of weapons from Iran, which are then used against Israel and its allies. The Israeli military emphasized that the Galaxy Leader was equipped with radar capabilities to track international vessels, further enabling militant operations in the Red Sea.

In a separate incident, a Houthi rocket launched towards southern Israel triggered air raid sirens but was intercepted without causing injuries. The Houthis claimed this rocket targeted Ben Gurion Airport near Tel Aviv. Israel has intensified strikes on key Yemeni ports and infrastructure in recent months, retaliating against ongoing Houthi rocket attacks in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza.
