Israeli warplanes launched airstrikes on a power station and two ports in Houthi-controlled Yemen in response to Houthi drone and missile attacks on Israel. The strikes resulted in at least one person killed and nine wounded, according to pro-Houthi media. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the Iran-backed Houthi militia would face consequences for their aggression.
The airstrikes targeted the Red Sea port of Ras Issa, the major port of Hodeidah, and other locations, causing casualties and damage. The Ras Issa port employee was killed, and six others were injured. British security firm Ambrey reported that the airstrikes targeted oil storage facilities near shipping berths, affecting the area but not causing damage to merchant vessels. Despite the attacks, the supply of petroleum derivatives remained stable, as confirmed by the Houthi government spokesperson.
In addition to the port strikes, Israeli warplanes targeted the Hezyaz central power station in Yemen’s capital, Sanaa. The airstrikes caused injuries to three citizens, including a worker at the power station, and damage to several homes. The Israeli military justified the attacks by stating that the power station supported the Houthi regime’s military activities and accused the Houthis of exploiting civilian infrastructure. The ongoing conflict between Israel and the Houthis has escalated in recent months, with both sides engaging in retaliatory attacks.
