Woodside Energy Trading Singapore has finalized a sale and purchase agreement with Japan’s JERA for liquefied natural gas (LNG) supply during Japan’s peak winter months. This deal strengthens the long-term LNG supply relationship between the two companies, committing Woodside to deliver three LNG cargoes annually, totaling approximately 0.2 million tonnes, over five years starting in 2027.

The LNG will be sourced from Woodside’s global portfolio, including projects like Scarborough, North West Shelf, and Pluto LNG, with deliveries scheduled from December to February. This agreement builds on a heads of agreement signed in June 2025, emphasizing cooperation on energy security backed by the Japanese government and the Japan Bank of International Cooperation.

Additionally, the agreement follows Woodside’s divestment of a 15.1% stake in the Scarborough joint venture to JERA in 2024, alongside a loan agreement with JBIC to support the Scarborough Energy Project. Woodside aims to convert preliminary agreements into binding contracts, reinforcing its role as a reliable supplier to Asian and European markets.

Both companies highlighted the significance of this agreement in enhancing energy supply resilience, particularly during the winter season, ensuring stable access to energy for Japan.
