The Global Center for Maritime Decarbonization (GCMD) has partnered with PSA International for five years to foster maritime decarbonization in port ecosystems. As a leading global port operator, PSA is the inaugural strategic partner for GCMD, contributing insights to incorporate new technologies into the maritime value chain.

Ports are vital in transitioning to sustainable maritime energy. Proper infrastructure development, including onshore power supplies and new fuel handling systems like ammonia and methanol bunkering, is essential. This encompasses establishing operational guidelines and emergency protocols tailored to port environments to facilitate energy transfer in the shipping sector.

Additionally, the integration of emission removal solutions, such as Carbon Capture and Liquid CO2 transport, is crucial for scaling maritime decarbonization initiatives. PSA’s extensive global presence across 180 locations in 45 countries positions it to play a significant role in these efforts.

With the rise of alternative fuels, ports must adapt protocols to ensure operational efficiency and safety amid changing fuel types. GCMD will leverage PSA’s global terminals to identify and address operational gaps, enhancing the security and viability of future fuel use in maritime operations.
