Grieg Maritime Group has entered into a contract with GT Wings to equip its fleet with at least two AirWing20 Jet Sails. This initiative highlights the growing importance of energy efficiency in achieving both climate objectives and commercial viability. Simply waiting for new fuels and vessels will not suffice; proactive measures must be taken on existing fleets to enhance performance.
The AirWing20 Jet Sail is designed to harness wind energy, significantly reducing fuel consumption for the vessel Star Kirkenes. Its high thrust output and compact design make it a cutting-edge solution for space-restricted applications, allowing for effective integration without disrupting cargo operations or capacity. The installation of the Jet Sails is scheduled for dry dock at the end of 2026 or early 2027.
This project represents the second full-scale deployment of the AirWing technology and is a pivotal moment for GT Wings as it scales its commercial efforts. Furthermore, it builds on a recent strategic investment from Grieg Kapital, reinforcing the partnership between the two organizations. The contract includes the installation of two Jet Sails on Star Kirkenes, with an option to extend this to the other three K-class vessels in the fleet.
