Malaysia Detains Two Tankers for Suspected Illegal Oil Transfer

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) has apprehended two tankers suspected of engaging in the illegal transfer of crude oil within Malaysian waters. This operation highlights the agency’s ongoing efforts to combat maritime crime.

On Thursday, January 29, MMEA personnel, acting on actionable intelligence, conducted an operation to board the unidentified vessels anchored north of the Port of Penang. The timely intervention underscores the agency’s commitment to maintaining maritime security in the region.

According to Penang Maritime Director Muhammad Suffi Mohd Ramli, the two tankers were discovered moored in close proximity to each other. Following the boarding, both vessels have been detained, and their captains are currently in custody as investigations proceed.
