The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) has renewed its memorandum of understanding with Bureau Veritas (BV) to enhance collaboration in maritime digitalization, decarbonization, and talent development. This partnership builds on their previous cooperation since 2022 and includes plans for establishing a BV global innovation hub in Singapore, focusing on emerging technologies like cybersecurity and new battery systems.
The renewed MoU will facilitate the development of innovative solutions, including smart ship systems and AI technologies to improve vessel inspections. Both organizations aim to promote the use of zero and near-zero greenhouse gas emissions fuels, electrification, and wind-assisted propulsion in the maritime industry.
BV will also continue its involvement in workforce development programs such as the MPA Global Internship Award and MaritimeONE initiatives. Teo Eng Dih, MPA’s Chief Executive, emphasized Singapore’s strong innovation ecosystem and the importance of collaboration in advancing maritime talent and technology.
Hinda Gharbi, BV’s Group CEO, highlighted the partnership’s commitment to supporting the maritime industry’s priorities. This collaboration follows a broader initiative in April 2023, when MPA signed a letter of intent with eight classification societies to work together on digitalization and decarbonization efforts.
