The Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands (PLOCAN) has recently become a member of the Net-Zero Mar Alliance, a non-profit organization focused on accelerating the decarbonization of the maritime and port sectors. This initiative aims to reduce polluting emissions from port infrastructure and maritime transport by promoting clean technologies and sustainable practices. By joining this alliance, PLOCAN is seizing the opportunity to advance the decarbonization of the marine-maritime sector and contribute to the European Union’s goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 55% by 2030.
PLOCAN’s CEO, José Joaquín Hernández Brito, highlighted the organization’s commitment to supporting renewable energy generation, testing decarbonization technologies, and promoting energy efficiency in the maritime sector and the Blue Economy. The Net-Zero Mar Alliance, which includes key players in the maritime industry, seeks to position Spain as a leader in the energy transition of the sector. With over 65 members, the alliance provides a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange to develop innovative solutions for reducing emissions in maritime and port transport.
By participating in working groups, forums, and conferences on decarbonization and renewable energies, PLOCAN will leverage its expertise to contribute to the development of sustainable solutions. África Marrero, PLOCAN’s Innovation Manager, emphasized the importance of collaboration within the alliance to achieve emission reduction objectives set by the EU. By combining knowledge and perspectives from various stakeholders, the alliance aims to drive the adoption of novel and sustainable solutions in the maritime and port sectors.
