Maritime technology firm Orca AI has introduced Co-Captain, a feature in its operational platform that enables real-time data sharing among vessels. This innovation connects a network of 1,000 Orca AI-equipped ships, enhancing situational awareness and preparedness for emerging risks. Co-Captain utilizes advanced computer-vision technology to integrate diverse inputs into a cohesive understanding of each vessel’s route, helping crews stay ahead of potential dangers.

As each vessel serves as a node in a global network, they continuously monitor high-risk targets, including non-AIS vessels and navigational hazards. Data is uploaded to the cloud, triggering alerts for various scenarios such as congested waters, severe weather, and GPS interference. These notifications allow crews to adjust their speed, course, or watchkeeping, ensuring safety and control.

CEO Yarden Gross emphasizes that this crowdsourced navigational engine improves shared awareness among vessels, enhancing their ability to anticipate risks. The system also prioritizes privacy, anonymizing all data except for location and observed conditions. Co-Captain delivers tailored notifications regarding traffic density, weather conditions, piracy zones, environmental compliance, and navigational hazards, ensuring crews are well-prepared for their journeys.
