On April 11, the Indian government announced that the LPG vessel Jag Vikram, flying the Indian flag, has successfully navigated the Strait of Hormuz. This comes amid ongoing tensions in the Gulf region, prompting authorities to maintain vigilant oversight of maritime activities.
The Jag Vikram, carrying approximately 20,400 metric tonnes of LPG and staffed by 24 crew members, is scheduled to arrive in Mumbai on April 15, according to the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. The government reassured the public that all Indian seafarers in the area are safe, with no incidents involving Indian-flagged vessels reported in the last 24 hours.
To ensure the safety of Indian maritime assets, the government has implemented necessary protective measures and established a 24/7 Shipping Control Room for continuous monitoring. Since its activation, the control room has managed nearly 6,000 calls and over 12,600 emails, with 128 calls and 319 emails received in just the last day.
Port operations across India remain unaffected, with no congestion reported. The Ministry of External Affairs is actively coordinating with Indian missions in the Gulf and West Asia to support the Indian community and ensure their safety, while also maintaining communication with state governments for effective coordination in the region.
