The Chemical Distribution Institute (CDI), International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF), and the Society of International Gas Tanker and Terminal Operators (SIGTTO) have launched the second edition of the Ship to Ship Transfer Guide for Petroleum, Chemicals and Liquefied Gases. Originally published by OCIMF in 1975 and consolidated in 2013, this guide is recognized as the definitive reference for safe STS operations worldwide.
The new edition, released during the 50th anniversary of the original, incorporates current best practices, regulatory updates, and technical advancements. It offers comprehensive guidance on planning and executing STS transfers for petroleum, chemicals, and liquefied gas cargoes.
Applicable to all vessels and referenced in Annex 1 of the MARPOL Convention, the guide is an essential resource for vessel Masters, Marine Superintendents, STS service providers, and regulatory authorities.
Notably, this edition includes a foreword by IMO Secretary-General Arsenio Domínguez, emphasizing the guide’s importance in supporting MARPOL implementation and enhancing safety through attention to human factors.
