The Panama Maritime Authority (PMA) has stated that it imposes no restrictions on recognizing competence certificates from India’s maritime administration. Instead, the PMA commends the expertise and professionalism of Indian seafarers. To combat potential fraud, it employs stringent criteria when evaluating seafarer documentation to ensure compliance with the STCW’78 Convention and its revised code.

Additionally, the PMA is dedicated to enhancing technical cooperation and mutual recognition of qualifications. This initiative aims to foster safe and sustainable maritime transport while prioritizing the well-being of seafarers globally, who are essential workers.

As the largest ship registry worldwide, Panama emphasizes international collaboration and reciprocity in maritime training and certification. The PMA ensures that seafarers on Panamanian vessels receive the required training and evaluation from qualified instructors, adhering to STCW’78 regulations.

In related news, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) recently confirmed that the canal operates at full capacity, maintaining a draft of 50 feet throughout the dry season, ensuring efficient maritime transit.
