The board of directors at South Korea’s HMM, a prominent shipping company, has greenlit a significant investment of approximately KRW 4.03 trillion (around US$2.8 billion). This funding will be directed towards the construction of new container vessels and very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

The investment is set to take place over a period starting from October 16, 2025, following the board’s approval, and is expected to conclude by April 30, 2029. This timeline aligns with the anticipated completion of vessel deliveries.

HMM’s decision reflects its commitment to expanding its fleet and enhancing its capabilities in the shipping industry. The focus on both container ships and VLCCs indicates a strategic move to cater to diverse market demands.
