Chalmers University of Technology and Greencarrier Group have formed a strategic partnership aimed at advancing sustainability in the maritime sector. Over the next three years, Greencarrier will fund research and education in maritime environmental science led by Professor Ida-Maja Hassellöv, a recognized expert in the field. This collaboration merges Chalmers’ academic strengths with Greencarrier’s industry insights to address pressing environmental issues and promote responsible maritime practices.

The partnership aligns with Chalmers’ new research initiative, Ocean, which consolidates all marine and maritime studies. Greencarrier’s support will facilitate long-term research and help cultivate future experts, reinforcing its Blue Initiative, which focuses on minimizing shipping’s environmental impact. Josefine Widegren from Greencarrier emphasizes the importance of collaboration in driving meaningful change within the maritime industry.

The joint effort aims to enhance Chalmers’ role in the transition to sustainable shipping by bridging academia and industry. Key research will focus on improving marine risk assessments related to shipping’s environmental effects. Professor Hassellöv expressed gratitude for the funding, noting its potential to bolster scientific understanding and marine health.

This partnership is rooted in a shared maritime legacy, tracing back to the Swedish East India Company, linking historical achievements with contemporary innovation in sustainability.
