His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah, has made significant directives to support the community. He has ordered a monthly allowance for all students at the Sharjah Maritime Transport Academy, recognizing the financial challenges they face while pursuing their education. Additionally, Sheikh Sultan has arranged for a new home to be provided to Umm Aisha and her family in Khor Fakkan, ensuring they have a stable living environment by June 2025. He has also allocated funds for furnishing the new house, demonstrating his commitment to improving the lives of his people.
These noble actions were prompted by interactions with the public through the ‘Direct Line’ program hosted by media figure Mohammed Khalaf. One caller, Abu Abdullah, highlighted the financial strain on students at the Maritime Transport Academy and requested assistance, leading to the directive for a monthly allowance. Another caller, Umm Aisha’s daughter, expressed concerns about her family’s housing situation, prompting Sheikh Sultan to intervene and ensure their security and stability in their current home. These compassionate gestures showcase Sheikh Sultan’s dedication to addressing the needs of his constituents.
In addition to these initiatives, Sheikh Sultan has approved an increase in the minimum retirement pension for retirees in Sharjah to Dhs17,500. This decision, effective from December 1, 2024, will provide financial relief to retirees and supplement their income to ensure a decent standard of living. The annual financial cost of this increase is estimated at Dhs1.3 million, with retroactive disbursement of the difference in pension for affected cases amounting to Dhs4 million. Sheikh Sultan’s commitment to enhancing social welfare and supporting vulnerable populations is evident in these proactive measures.
