A drone strike in Russia’s Taman port on the Black Sea has resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and vessels, further jeopardizing the country’s commodity assets. According to local officials, the attack impacted two tankers and two piers at the Volna settlement within the port area. Additionally, a connecting pipeline and two storage tanks sustained damage.
Emergency services have been deployed to extinguish fires on both the piers and tankers, with ongoing efforts to contain a blaze that has spread across approximately 1,500 square meters. Fortunately, there have been no reported oil spills or injuries, as noted in the Telegram update provided by authorities.
This incident occurs amid heightened military tensions, as Ukraine has intensified assaults on Russian maritime assets, including oil tankers and drilling platforms. The two nations are locked in an escalating energy conflict, striving for a strategic advantage during ongoing peace negotiations.
Taman port, situated on a peninsula opposite Crimea—which Russia annexed from Ukraine in 2014—plays a critical role in handling various cargo, including oil and grains. Recent reports indicate that Ukraine has targeted other Russian interests, including a drilling platform in the Caspian Sea and a tanker in the Mediterranean.
