Breaking News: Tanker Collision Off Khor Fakkan, UAE
Two tankers, Front Eagle and Adalynn, collided off the coast of Khor Fakkan, UAE, around 2120 GMT on Monday. Initial reports suggest the incident may have resulted in a fire, as NASA FIRMS satellite data detected a heat source in the area shortly thereafter. Images of a significant blaze have circulated on social media.
The UAE’s coast guard confirmed the collision and reported that all 24 crew members from Adalynn were safely rescued by Tuesday morning local time. Global risk intelligence agency Ambrey noted an unspecified incident approximately 22 nautical miles from Khor Fakkan, aligning with AIS tracking data.
Maritime expert Prof. Sal Mercogliano indicated that the collision occurred as one vessel made a late starboard turn instead of maintaining its course. He also highlighted that the tanker had previously shown signs of AIS spoofing during its voyage, raising concerns about navigational integrity.
As investigations continue, further details regarding the cause and implications of the collision are expected to emerge.
