The Welsh Government is providing over £1 million in funding to support the marine, fisheries, and aquaculture industry in Wales. This funding aims to promote sustainable growth in the sector and help coastal communities thrive. The funding package includes £700,000 for revenue and £700,000 for capital, with a 10-week application window open for interested parties. A wide range of activities can be supported through the scheme, covering 11 different categories.
Activities that can be funded through the scheme include enhancing aquaculture sites and equipment on vessels to reduce emissions and improve energy efficiency, providing professional advice on marine environment sustainability and business plans, and funding for health and safety items for vessels or land-based operations. Previous funding rounds have supported projects such as ice machines, weighing scales, vessel modifications for energy efficiency, and marine evidence gathering projects. The maximum grant per application is £100,000, with a minimum grant of £500.
Interested parties have until 24 March 2025 to submit their applications for funding. This initiative aims to boost the marine, fisheries, and aquaculture industry in Wales, supporting businesses and communities in the sector to thrive and contribute to sustainable economic growth in the region. The funding is part of the Welsh Government’s efforts to promote a thriving and sustainable marine industry in Wales, benefiting both the environment and local economies.
