World’s First Maritime AI Research Center Established in Norway

The Norwegian Maritime AI Centre has been designated as a national research centre focused on applied artificial intelligence within the maritime industry. Advocates claim it is the first initiative of its kind globally.

The centre will be spearheaded by the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) and is set to receive NOK100 million (approximately $9.4 million) over a five-year period, commencing in 2025.

According to a statement from Norway’s Ministry of Trade, Industry and Fisheries, the centre aims to enhance technology and foster innovation among maritime stakeholders through the expanded application of artificial intelligence.
