The family of Third Engineer Ketan Mehta, one of 16 Indian crew members taken captive by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has urgently appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for assistance. The vessel, MT Valiant Roar, was intercepted on December 8, 2025, off the UAE coast, with Iranian authorities alleging it was involved in smuggling 6,000 MT of fuel.
Ketan’s father, Mukesh Mehta, revealed that the last time they spoke with Ketan was on New Year’s Eve, when he assured them he was safe. Since then, Ketan has lost his phone and communicated through a colleague, who confirmed that the IRGC has officially arrested him and ten others from the crew.
The Mehta family has reached out to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the Indian Embassy for help, but report a lack of updates. Mukesh Mehta expressed concern about his son’s safety in an Iranian detention center, while Ketan’s mother, Rajni, is devastated by the absence of communication.
In their emotional plea, the family urged Prime Minister Modi to intervene, stating, “Our son is innocent. We beg for his return before it’s too late.”
