On October 18, a severe explosion aboard the LPG carrier ‘Falcon’ in the Gulf of Aden prompted immediate distress signals, which were intercepted by another nearby vessel, the ‘Meda’. Despite the danger posed by the explosion, Captain Joginder Singh of ‘Meda’ swiftly directed his crew to the scene while maintaining a safe distance to avoid flammable gases. Initial communication difficulties were overcome as the crew spotted life rafts and confirmed the evacuation of ‘Falcon’s’ crew, which had resulted in two confirmed casualties.

Under the captain’s guidance, ‘Meda’ initiated recovery operations, deploying line-throwing devices to secure connections with the life rafts. In challenging conditions, the crew successfully rescued 24 survivors, including 23 Indians and one Ukrainian, who were provided with medical assistance and essential supplies. All rescued individuals were reported to be in stable condition.
