The International Labor Organization (ILO) has confirmed that the Philippine Seafarer’s Identity Document (SID) meets international standards following an independent evaluation. Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) Administrator Sonia Malaluan announced this positive assessment on May 19, emphasizing the government’s commitment to ongoing improvements.
Malaluan stated, “We are dedicated to enhancing our systems further to ensure that our SID remains secure, efficient, and globally recognized.” The evaluation, led by ILO’s Dr. John William Campbell, was concluded during a ceremony at MARINA’s Central Office on May 16.
Dr. Campbell praised MARINA’s efforts, noting that “everything is on track” and describing the SID issuance process as a “very good system” that has functioned reliably in recent years. The evaluation included assessments of MARINA’s Central Office and Regional Offices VI and VII, aiming to protect the identity and credibility of Filipino seafarers in the global maritime industry.
This reaffirmation from the ILO highlights the Philippines’ dedication to maintaining high standards in maritime documentation and the ongoing support for Filipino seafarers.
