A dramatic rescue operation occurred off the coast of Yemen following an explosion on the MV Falcon, a Cameroon-flagged ship transporting liquefied petroleum gas (LPG). The explosion caused the vessel to drift and ignited a fire, necessitating immediate rescue efforts for the crew members on board.

In response to the emergency, EUNAVFOR ASPIDES, under the command of Rear Admiral Andrea Quondamatteo, acted quickly upon receiving a distress call from the ship’s captain. The operation successfully rescued 24 crew members, comprising 23 Indians and one Ukrainian, who were subsequently handed over to the Djiboutian Coast Guard for further assistance.

The MV Falcon was en route to Djibouti from the vicinity of Yemen’s port of Aden when the incident occurred, raising significant safety concerns. With two crew members still unaccounted for and the ship carrying a hazardous cargo of LPG, ASPIDES has issued warnings to nearby vessels to keep a safe distance due to the potential risk of additional explosions. The situation remains critical as authorities continue their search efforts.
