ONE surpasses Evergreen in global ranking

ONE has taken a lead of approximately 8,000 slots over Evergreen this month, moving up to sixth place in the carrier rankings tracked by Alphaliner. However, Evergreen is expected to surpass ONE in the rankings soon and potentially challenge Hapag-Lloyd for fifth place due to its significant backlog. Hapag-Lloyd is reportedly one of four parties vying for the acquisition of South Korea’s flagship HMM, which state creditors plan to sell by the end of the year.

The top ten carrier rankings have undergone changes in recent years. Previously, there were three distinct groups, including a top 4 group and a middle group of three, along with three sub-1 million slot carriers. However, the rankings have seen significant shifts. MSC, which surpassed Maersk at the start of 2021, is now in its own category, with over 1 million slots separating it from Maersk. Maersk is on track to be overtaken by the French CMA CGM, while COSCO in fourth place has closed the gap on the podium since 2021.
