ABB has introduced a new test vessel featuring Dynafit technology, offering superior maneuverability, instant thrust control, and precise dynamic positioning capabilities for open-water efficiency of up to 85%. The modular concept can be customized for different operator needs, ship types, and hull types. This technology is suitable for vessels running electric, fuel-cell, or hybrid systems, allowing for operation in sensitive marine areas with reduced underwater noise and turbulence.
The motors for the Dynafit system are housed within the host vessel’s hull to minimize underwater noise and create less turbulence, with low-pressure pulses and blade-tip speeds. ABB envisions propulsor units ranging from 1 to 4 MW for small and medium-sized passenger or work vessels, with larger vessels like cruise ships able to host multiple units. This innovative technology aims to optimize efficiency and performance while minimizing environmental impact in various marine applications.
