IRS Approves WAYSHIP Electronic Record Book for Maritime Operations

Indian Register of Shipping Approves Volteo Maritime Electronic Record Book

The Indian Register of Shipping (IRS) has granted type approval to WAYSHIP, an electronic record book created by Volteo Maritime, aimed at enhancing digital record-keeping on ships. This approval encompasses a variety of statutory records that have traditionally been maintained in physical formats. By transitioning these records to a digital platform, WAYSHIP aims to streamline access to operational information, thereby simplifying record management and verification processes.

WAYSHIP is designed to handle essential shipboard records, including engine and deck logbooks, oil record books, ballast water record books, and garbage record books. Additionally, it supports several records mandated under MARPOL Annex VI, such as documentation for fuel changeovers, NOx Tier II and III switching, volatile organic compounds, and exhaust gas cleaning systems. The IRS emphasizes that electronic record books can enhance the consistency and accessibility of operational data, facilitating inspections and data analysis while reducing dependence on paper documentation.

The type approval certificate for WAYSHIP was officially presented at the IRS headquarters.
