Athens-based ship manager Polembros Shipping has hired Marlink to install Starlink’s low Earth orbit (LEO) service for its entire fleet. The goal is to expand Polembros’ digital toolset and improve crew wellbeing and remote technology using the LEO service. Polembros is already a customer of Marlink’s hybrid network that includes VSAT services for the entire fleet. The new SeaLink NextGen service combines GEO VSAT and MSS backup with LEO or MEO connectivity as required by the customer. Everything is controlled and managed via Marlink’s XChange platform. Polembros manages a fleet of Aframax and Suezmax tankers, while its sister company Polembros Bulkers manages vessels ranging from Handysize to Newcastlemax. The company has been around since 1974.
