Union minister of ports, shipping, and waterways Sarbananda Sonowal announced that his ministry has advanced Sagarmala projects worth Rs 24,000 crore in Goa. These projects aim to transform the country’s maritime sector. Sonowal made this statement during his two-day visit to Goa to attend the 20th Maritime State Development Council (MSDC) meeting. At the meeting, the progress of projects underway will be reviewed, and discussions will be held on Maritime India Vision 2030 and Amrit Kaal Vision 2047. The meeting will involve chief ministers of coastal states, Union territories, and other stakeholders, focusing on key issues critical to India’s maritime future.
During his visit, Sonowal also inspected the international cruise terminal and other port facilities at the Mormugao port. He emphasized the importance of setting a benchmark in excellence at the new cruise terminal to attract 1.5 million cruise tourists by 2030. The aim is to provide world-class facilities to meet this target and enhance the overall maritime infrastructure.
The meeting at the MSDC will explore strategies to build world-class maritime infrastructure and address challenges in the maritime sector. Stakeholders, including chief ministers and representatives from coastal states and Union territories, will collaborate to ensure the successful implementation of Sagarmala projects in Goa and across the country. Sonowal’s visit highlights the government’s commitment to enhancing India’s maritime capabilities and promoting tourism through the development of ports and maritime facilities.
