Three Indian seafarers were stranded on the Indonesian island of Nias for nine months due to a dispute over their grounded tanker, the Aashi. The trio had abandoned the Gabon-flagged tanker in February after it began sinking and rescue efforts failed. They were unable to leave the island and had been staying in a hotel since then. The 5,000-dwt bitumen tanker, built in 2008, had been the subject of a legal dispute, preventing the seafarers from returning home.

After months of uncertainty, the seafarers were finally able to fly back to India. Their ordeal, which began in February, has finally come to an end. The three men had been unable to leave the island due to the legal issues surrounding their abandoned tanker. The resolution of the dispute allowed them to return home after a long and difficult period of being stranded in Indonesia.
