The ABS Electrification Center, based in Singapore, will provide support for electrification projects in the maritime industry. The center aims to help the shipping industry achieve net zero emissions by 2050 by exploring alternative energy options, particularly electrification. It will conduct research and development, design review, rule development, and construction and retrofit projects. One of its main goals is to support the development of electric harbour craft, which is a key decarbonization target for the Port of Singapore. The establishment of the center has been welcomed by the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA), as it will contribute to the local knowledge and expertise on electrification technologies and standards.

The ABS Electrification Center is part of the ABS office in Singapore, which is one of the five global ABS Sustainability Centers. These centers provide comprehensive decarbonization and sustainability solutions for marine and offshore clients. The establishment of the electrification center reflects the growing importance of electrification in the shipping industry’s efforts to reduce emissions and transition towards cleaner energy sources. By supporting electrification projects and promoting the use of electric harbour craft, the center aims to contribute to the development of a vibrant marine electrification ecosystem in Singapore and the wider region.
