Visits from Family for Cruise Workers at Mormugao Port

The Mormugao Port Authority in Panaji has announced that they will now allow shore leave for crew members and permit family members to visit cruise ships that dock at the port. This decision has been welcomed by the Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI), as it will provide much-needed relief for crew members who have been at sea for long periods. The president of GSAI, Frank Viegas, described the decision as a “breakthrough” and a positive development for the seafarer community. The port authorities have also put in place procedures to facilitate the process of allowing family members to visit the ships, with crew members required to submit visitors’ forms to obtain port entry passes five days before the vessel arrives.

The GSAI had requested the Mormugao Port Authority to grant shore leave and allow family members to visit the ships, and they are pleased with the decision. Viegas emphasized the importance of fostering family bonds and providing much-needed respite to the hardworking crew members, and commended the port for setting an example for other ports to follow.
