Udupi Cochin Shipyard Ltd. (UCSL) has launched its first high-performance tug with a 70-tonne bollard pull for Ocean Sparkle Ltd., part of the Adani Ports group. This vessel, designed by Robert Allan Ltd., showcases advanced engineering and aligns with India’s self-reliance goals in shipbuilding. UCSL is also developing additional tugs and cargo vessels.
The Adani Group is considering developing a transshipment port on Great Nicobar Island, along with an airport, new town, tourism facilities, and power plants. This ambitious project aims to establish the island as a major shipping port, but experts are worried about its impact on the environment and indigenous population of the region.
Sources reveal that a company plans to double its original $100 billion investment forecast over seven to ten years, focusing on expanding its business. With projected investments mainly directed towards fast-growing corporate entities like renewable energy and airports, the goal is to create optimal conditions for substantial profit growth.
The team expects to complete the study by March. Environmental clearance for the construction of Adani Vizhinjam Private Port Limited’s (AVPPL) second and third phases hinges on the report. The deadline for both phases was shifted to 2028. The project is estimated to cost Rs 10,000 crore, with 1,000 meters of breakwater to be built.
The tripartite agreement would provide a viability gap fund worth Rs 817.80 crore to Adani Vizhinjam Private Port Limited, speeding up the project completion. The second and third phases are expected to be finished by 2028, attracting significant investments. Despite delays due to unforeseeable events, the project aims to resume and achieve completion.
Adani Gangavaram Port has achieved its highest-ever monthly throughput volume of 4 MMT in January 2024, breaking previous records. Strategic investments in cargo handling infrastructure and railway facilities contributed to this success. The management expressed confidence in reaching new heights and providing world-class services through continued strategic investments.
Kattupalli Port, operating under a master plan, has permission to add five berths with a total quay length of 1,900 meters. The port currently handles containers from two berths and has plans to develop the remaining two berths while maintaining a multi-purpose capability.
