Marine fuel sales in Fujairah, the world’s third-largest bunkering hub, hit a record low in February. The decline in sales was attributed to a decrease in refueling demand at key bunker ports amidst global shipping uncertainty. Singapore, another major bunker port, also experienced a drop in sales to a 20-month low.
Licensed bunker tankers in the Singapore port can now carry and deliver up to 30% blended marine biofuel (B30) starting Friday, following new regulations from the Maritime and Port Authority. This change aligns with international standards and reflects a growing demand for cleaner fuel options. Stakeholders must seek approval for biofuel blends exceeding 30%.
In October, marine fuel sales in Singapore hit a nine-month high due to increased container throughput and vessel calls for bunkering. Bunker sales totaled 4.88 million metric tons, marking an 11% increase from the previous month. Low-sulfur fuel saw a significant increase, while high-sulfur marine fuel demand surged.
Germany’s rescue authorities successfully evacuated the crew and controlled a fire on a bunker vessel near Warnemunde. The German Maritime Search and Rescue Service used their vessel, Wilma Sikorski, to rescue the seven crew members. The Annika, a bunker vessel, caught fire in the Bay of Mecklenburg, causing concerns about potential environmental hazards.
