DP World has upgraded the Mundra International Container Terminal with a new advanced quay crane and three electric Rubber-Tyre Gantry Cranes, enhancing Gujarat’s trade significance. The quay crane supports vessels up to 22 rows wide, boosting capacity to 1.56 million TEUs by 2027 while aligning with sustainability goals.
Vizhinjam port is projected to handle 1.3 to 1.4 million containers by December 2026, as announced by Minister V N Vasavan. Since its operations began on December 3, 2024, it has already processed over 1 million containers, significantly exceeding initial expectations and establishing itself as a key player in maritime trade.
Vizhinjam Port has quickly become the leading container handling hub in South and East India, narrowing the gap with major Western ports. Its strategic location and advanced automated systems have enabled it to exceed its initial capacity. As it continues to develop, Vizhinjam is set to enhance its regional container trade dominance.
In the fiscal year 2024-25, DP World’s Container Terminal in Cochin set a new volume record, handling 834,665 TEUs with an 11% year-on-year growth. Various segments like transshipment, foreign exports, coastal exports, reefer volumes, and single-vessel transactions also achieved new records. The terminal plays a crucial role in regional trade in South and East India.
Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) in India excelled in November 2024 by handling 596,844 TEUs of containers, reflecting a 15.23% increase from the previous year. The port managed a total of 4,738,978 TEU containers and 60.05 million tonnes of cargo from April to November 2024, displaying growth and operational excellence.
