Swedish startup Candela has launched its hydrofoil electric ferry, Nova, which is now in operation. The 30-passenger ferry traveled from Tappström to Stockholm’s City Hall in just 30 minutes, covering a 15-kilometer route. Powered by electric motors, Nova is the fastest electric ferry globally, cruising at 25 knots above the water’s surface.
UK ferry operator Red Funnel plans to launch an emission-free high-speed vessel by late 2025. The all-electric e-foiling passenger ferry, developed by Artemis Technologies, will reach speeds of up to 36 knots, with zero emissions and increased efficiency. With a passenger capacity of up to 150, the innovative ferry promises a more comfortable ride, reducing vessel motion and wake effects.
This innovative battery-electric vessel, the Hydroglider, was chosen by Singapore’s Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) to work closely with researchers for validation and market readiness. Developed by marinEV, a brand of Yinson GreenTech, this modern catamaran promises energy efficiency and cutting-edge technology, including 3D-printed passenger seats and potential for autonomous operations.
