Cruise Iceland is sounding the alarm over a new head tax introduced by the government in 2025, claiming it deters cruise lines and leads to a significant drop in bookings for 2026. Despite a record 2.3 million visitors in 2024, projections indicate a potential collapse in the industry by 2027.
The FuelEU initiative will not apply to Norway and Iceland, as they are EEA members but not EU Member States. However, 50% of energy used on voyages between these countries and EU Member States will be subject to FuelEU regulations from January 1, 2025. Exemptions are available for specific routes and ports until December 31, 2029.
