Vizhinjam International Seaport Limited (VISL) is launching a major expansion, signing three Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) to enhance its infrastructure. The first phase involves an ₹800 crore investment via public-private partnerships, featuring a significant collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation to establish a dedicated oil bunkering facility, strengthening Vizhinjam’s position as a maritime hub.
Vizhinjam International Seaport is poised for significant expansion, aiming to double its workforce within three years. With plans for two additional berths and a larger wave breaker, it seeks to process nearly five million containers annually by 2028, highlighting a pressing need for skilled employees in various sectors.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to commission the Vizhinjam International Seaport on May 2, after it has been operational for commercial purposes since December. The delay in inauguration was due to technical issues, now resolved. Agreements have been made for funding and environmental clearance, paving the way for future development.
