Æther Swiss Kite is a groundbreaking initiative focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions from shipping by over 20%. A team of 60 students is developing an automated control system to launch a large kite, enhancing fuel efficiency through wind power. The project aims to provide an open-source solution, improving kite traction for the maritime industry.
ClassNK has validated the performance of the automated kite system, ‘Seawing,’ developed by Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha and OCEANICWING S.A.S. This validation, encapsulated in a Statement of Fact, highlights the system’s potential to meet environmental regulations and reduce fuel costs, reinforcing the maritime industry’s commitment to sustainability through wind-assisted propulsion systems.
