ASEAN Adopts Regional Strategy on Biofouling Management for Sustainable Maritime Practices

ASEAN member states recently adopted the Regional Strategy on Biofouling Management during the 47th ASEAN Maritime Transport Working Group in Brunei on September 17-18. Led by the Philippine delegation, the draft Regional Strategy was presented by Maritime Industry Authority deputy administrator for Operations Nannette Dinopol. The strategy’s main goal is to maintain healthy marine ecosystems.

Philippines Maritime Authority Proposes STCW Revisions in Stakeholder Forum

The Maritime Industry Authority of Philippines conducted a review of draft proposals to update the STCW Convention for current and future maritime challenges. In a session called “Usapang STCW,” stakeholders provided feedback on proposed revisions. Key topics discussed included digitalization, simulator training, seafarers’ welfare, and harmonization measures for regulation implementation.

Philippines: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. Approves 10-Year Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has approved the 10-year updated Maritime Industry Development Plan 2028 (MIDP). Executive Order No. 55 adopts the plan as the country’s whole-of-nation roadmap for the integrated development of the maritime industry. The plan calls for modernization and expansion of the shipping industry, promotion of a skilled maritime workforce, and more.
